Week 10 (March 5-11):  New York in Winter

Posted on

Caroline wanted a trip back to her old stomping grounds for Christmas.   We finally made it happen this week and I’ll be the first say that a trip to the Hamptons in March just isn’t as fun as a summer adventure.  But it was beautiful with some fresh snow.  This picture will not do justice but I had to snap a photo of the trees covered in snow on Squires Ave (our old street).

Week 39 (September 22nd-September 28): Friends & Family

Posted on

As a family that doesn’t often get to see friends and family, we really hit the jackpot this week! A trip to Cape May at the beginning of the week gave us time with our good friends, Jim & Joan (our most gracious hosts!) and Granny & Great Mom mom & Jeff’s aunts. We also got to spend time with Jeff’s cousin & his family—a first for us. Caroline & Liam made instant friends with their new cousins. What a great trip with time spent at the beach, on the boardwalk, and making new memories.

The end of the week brought us visitors from away. The Hardy family came all the way from China….Maine (sorry, I couldn’t resist!). Caroline & Liam were certain that the Hardy children were also cousins. The time flew by but I think it’s safe to say we all had a great time (I won’t mention the meltdowns that each kid managed to fit in). And I can brag that my friend Angela ran in the Hampton’s Half Marathon while here and beat her personal record. Yay, Angela!

How did I manage to get a picture of Jim but not Joan? Seems to happen every trip. Maybe next year she should drive the tractor!

Yes. I made my son do the Karate Kid pose. Someday he'll appreciate it.

Camera ready! She NEVER wants to pose for pictures. Must be the Jersey girl in her coming out!

I always say September is the best month for hanging at the beach!

Week 19 (May 6th-May 13th): Life’s a Beach

Don’t grow up too quickly, lest you forget how much you love the beach.
-Michelle Held

Between May 6th and the 13th, the Smith family went to beach a total of three times. The first trip involved just hopping in the car and going. After seeing how much fun the kids had on that little trip, we followed up the next weekend with bathing suits, buckets and beach blankets. And now, before it is even summer, they are hooked and already asking when we are going back! Liam is all about the digging and making castles. Caroline wants to swim, swim, swim –even in the coldest of water. I guess we will need to look into getting a beach pass for those world famous Hampton beaches!

I help Liam test the water. We both agree it was a bit chilly!

May 6, 2012: The Smith’s stick their toes in the water.

Caroline was a little (ok–lot!) disappointed that this was as high as we would let her go on the rocks.

Notice how Liam has to keep a hand on Jeff….another good reminder that my big boy is still little.

As the kids say…”Look, there’s our bridge!”
